HBO Marketing Exec Steven Cardwell Joins Waiting in the Sky

In case you missed the story in Variety this week, we are thrilled to announce that former HBO & Max VP of Originals Marketing, Steven Cardwell, has joined Waiting In The Sky as a partner. At Waiting In The Sky, our mission is to build a home for the world’s most inspiring and creative pop culture marketers. Steven Cardwell is part of the magic behind some of the most inspiring Entertainment marketing in recent history.
While at HBO and Max, Steven was responsible for overseeing ground-breaking campaigns for some of the streamer’s biggest tentpole series of the past decade, including House of the Dragon, Succession, Euphoria, and Game of Thrones.
Highlights of Steven’s boundary-pushing and Emmy-award-winning work include the immersive Westworld experience at SXSW, the final season campaign for Game of Thrones which asked fans how far they would go #ForTheThrone, and the recent season two viral campaign for House of the Dragon, which had iconic institutions, sports teams, brands, and fans all over the world raising their banners for either Team Green or Team Black, culminating in a massive 270-foot dragon takeover on top of the Empire State Building.
Before his tenure at HBO and Max, Steven served as the Marketing Director for IFC Films and Scott Rudin Productions. During that time, he was responsible for marketing a slate of films and Broadway productions, including Boyhood, The Social Network, True Grit, Moonrise Kingdom, and the Tony Award-winning musical, The Book of Mormon.
